## In brief

- BirdLife Malta has reported an increase in illegal hunting incidents during the spring migration season.
- The organisation highlighted serious gaps in the enforcement of hunting regulations.
- BirdLife suggested this surge indicates a lack of political will to properly manage the hunting season.

BirdLife Malta has issued a warning about a notable increase in illegal hunting activities as the spring bird migration season progresses. The environmental organisation stated that this surge reveals significant shortcomings in how hunting regulations are enforced.

According to BirdLife Malta, the current situation points to a lack of political commitment to effectively address and manage the hunting season. The group has observed a rise in reported incidents, raising concerns about the safety of protected bird species.

The organisation emphasised that stronger enforcement measures are needed to deter illegal hunting. They called for authorities to take more decisive action to ensure that hunting laws are respected and that migrating birds are protected during their passage through Malta.
