# PN Casual Elections: Outlets Report Differing Candidate Numbers

## In brief

- Partit Nazzjonalista (PN) has received nominations for casual elections to fill seven parliamentary seats.
- Times of Malta reported that 23 candidates submitted nominations across seven districts.
- NET News stated that 42 individuals submitted their nominations for these elections.

Partit Nazzjonalista (PN) is holding casual elections to fill seven parliamentary seats that became vacant after the recent European Parliament and local council elections. These seats are spread across seven different electoral districts.

There is a discrepancy in the reported number of candidates who have submitted their nominations. Times of Malta stated that 23 candidates put forward their names for these elections.

However, NET News reported a higher figure, indicating that 42 individuals submitted their nominations to contest the casual elections.

Newsbook has confirmed that 42 nominations were submitted for the Nationalist Party's casual elections, which are scheduled to take place on Tuesday. This figure aligns with earlier reports from NET News.

The Electoral Commission is holding these casual elections to fill seven parliamentary seats. These seats became vacant after Nationalist Party Members of Parliament were elected in two districts following last month's general election.

## The Spin Room

**Low media divide.** All outlets reported the factual number of nominations for the casual elections, with Newsbook's report clarifying the previously noted discrepancy.

## Updates

- **2026-06-14:** Updated with reporting from ONE News, which also confirmed 42 nominations were submitted, corroborating the figure from NET News.
