The Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disability (CRPD) has intensified its efforts against the misuse of Blue Badges, recovering over 1,600 such badges. This initiative aims to ensure that parking concessions for persons with disability are used correctly and by eligible individuals.

Among the badges recovered, 72 were identified as fake and subsequently confiscated by the CRPD during 2025. These fake badges represent a serious breach of the system designed to assist those with genuine mobility challenges.

In addition to the confiscations, the CRPD also sent more than 4,000 letters to individuals who were found to be still using expired Blue Badges. This highlights the ongoing challenge of ensuring compliance with the regulations governing these important permits.

MaltaToday reported that the CRPD recovered over 1,600 misused Blue Badges, indicating a broad scope of issues ranging from expired permits to outright fraudulent use. Times of Malta provided further details, specifying the number of fake badges confiscated and the extensive outreach regarding expired ones.

Blue Badges are crucial permits that allow persons with disability to park in designated spaces, facilitating their access to public services and amenities. Their misuse can severely impact the quality of life for those who genuinely rely on them.

The CRPD continues to monitor the use of these badges and urges the public to report any suspected misuse to help maintain the integrity of the system.
