Maltese soldiers serving as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have been confirmed safe and unharmed. This assurance comes from the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) amid reports of escalating conflict in the southern Lebanon region.
The Maltese contingent is part of a wider peacekeeping mission, working alongside Irish defence forces. Their presence in the area is aimed at maintaining stability and peace.
Concerns for the safety of peacekeepers in the region were heightened after an incident on 6th March, when an Israeli tank reportedly fired on a UNIFIL base. This attack resulted in at least one peacekeeper being injured.
Despite the volatile situation, the AFM has confirmed that all Maltese personnel are secure and continuing their duties as part of the international force.
