Our Lady of Sorrows Commemorated Across Malta, Valletta Procession Cancelled

Parishes across Malta commemorated the devotional feast of Our Lady of Sorrows today. This annual religious observance sees many faithful participate in various events and reflections.

However, the traditional procession in Valletta, a significant event for many, was cancelled just minutes before it was due to start. This "difficult decision" was made because of unstable weather conditions, which posed a risk to participants and the event itself.

During the commemoration, Archbishop Charles Scicluna delivered a message reflecting on the day's significance. He recalled the "young lives" that have been lost due to war and drugs.

The Archbishop described these individuals as "so many victims of harsh decisions of those who lead the world." His words highlighted the broader societal impact of global conflicts and substance abuse, urging reflection on leadership responsibilities.

Archbishop Charles Scicluna celebrated Mass on the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows at the Church of Santa Maria di Gesù, also known as Ta' Ġieżu, in Valletta.

During his homily, the Archbishop focused on the moment when Christ, from the Cross, entrusted his Mother to the Beloved Disciple. He urged the faithful to "transform suffering into love."

Archbishop Charles Scicluna visited Malta’s two prisons, the Corradino Correctional Facility and the Centre of Residential Restorative Services (CoRRS) in Mtaħleb. He prayed with the residents at both locations on the occasion of Our Lady of Sorrows.

This visit follows the widespread commemoration of Our Lady of Sorrows across Malta, as previously reported by Fil-Qosor. The traditional procession in Valletta was cancelled this year due to unstable weather conditions.
