A new monument, inspired by the ancient Ġgantija Temples, has been unveiled in Xewkija, Gozo. The steel sculpture, named 'Encounter', now stands on a roundabout that had an empty plinth for at least 16 years.

The artwork is the creation of Xagħra artist Christopher Saliba. Its design draws inspiration from the prehistoric temples, reflecting Gozo's rich historical heritage.

This inauguration marks the first of four public artworks planned for various locations across Gozo. The initiative aims to enhance public spaces with cultural and artistic installations.

The monument's installation brings to an end a long wait for the Xewkija roundabout, which had featured an unoccupied plinth since at least 2008.
