The proposed plans also focus on increasing energy generation from renewable sources such as solar, wind, and waste. This move is intended to enhance Malta's energy independence and sustainability.

However, the announcement, made during a press conference by Energy Minister Miriam Dalli, was met with some criticism regarding transparency. While the minister presented "five pillars" outlining the government's vision for the next five years, a comprehensive, detailed plan document was not published or distributed to the press.
