Benna Increases Milk Prices for Second Time in Six Months

In brief

  • Benna, Malta's main milk producer, has raised the price of its milk products for the second time in six months.
  • A one-litre carton of whole milk has increased from €1.30 to €1.37.
  • Other milk cartons have also seen price adjustments, with some rising by 6 or 7 cents.

Benna, Malta's leading milk producer, has announced a second price increase for its products within the last six months. Consumers will now see higher prices for various milk cartons across the island.

Newsbook reported that a one-litre carton of whole milk has increased from €1.30 to €1.37. This marks a seven-cent rise for this particular product.

The Maltese Herald also confirmed the price hikes, noting that Benna's flagship one-litre celestial blue carton has gone up by six cents, from €1.26 to €1.32. Other medium blue cartons have seen a seven-cent increase.

Historically, Benna has aimed to keep its prices at the lower end of the market. This latest round of increases comes amidst broader economic concerns.

The Maltese Herald highlighted that these price adjustments are occurring while the National Statistics Office (NSO) has delayed the publication of key inflation statistics for July. The NSO customarily releases these figures following the EU's Consumer Price Index (CPI) readings.

This situation leaves consumers facing rising costs for essential goods like milk, with official inflation data currently unavailable to provide a full economic context.

Milk prices have risen for the second time within a year, with a one-litre carton of whole milk now costing €1.37. This marks a 7-cent increase for the product.

Times of Malta reported on this latest price adjustment, noting it is the second such increase within a 12-month period.
