The trial by jury of businessman Yorgen Fenech, who is accused of ordering the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, entered its 30th day on Tuesday.
During the proceedings, Matthew Caruana Galizia testified, reiterating that the Electrogas project was a flagship initiative of the Labour Party and Joseph Muscat during the 2013 general election campaign. He stated that this project dominated his mother's work during the period leading up to her death.
Further testimony touched upon Keith Schembri's statements in court, with The Maltese Herald highlighting what it described as a "litany of lies and diversions." The report noted that Schembri's protection of Silvio Valletta, who was allegedly protecting Yorgen Fenech, was among the unsaid details. Schembri reportedly told Fenech that "as long as he is there, no one will touch Silvio Valletta."
The court also heard details about Yorgen Fenech's personal life. Among his relationships was one with Maria Grech, the former wife of Film Commissioner Johann Grech. She later reportedly eloped with Iosif Galea, who has been charged with corruption and money laundering. Fenech allegedly referred to Maria Grech as "Maria ic-Chump."
