A widespread power failure plunged most of Gozo into darkness on Friday evening, disrupting residential and commercial premises across the island.

The electricity cut occurred at around 7:30pm. Almost the entire island was affected by the sudden loss of power, prompting numerous reports and complaints from residents.

Enemalta explained on social media that the outage was caused by faults developing on two of the three 33kV high-voltage cables serving the network.

The national energy provider noted that technical teams were detecting the exact points of failure and repair works were scheduled to commence as soon as possible to restore supply.
