- The applicant, Ronnie Camilleri, is the cousin and official driver of Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri.
Heritage organisation Din l-Art Ħelwa Għawdex has appealed to the public to submit formal objections against a planning application that seeks to build a residential dwelling on Outside Development Zone (ODZ) land in Nadur.
The proposal involves converting and significantly expanding a structure that was previously granted planning permission for use as a garage into a fully-fledged private house.
The site is situated in a rural location overlooking countryside and sea views, prompting concerns from environmentalists about inappropriate construction on protected land.
Public records indicate that the application was submitted by Ronnie Camilleri, who works as the official driver for Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri and is also the minister's cousin.
Din l-Art Ħelwa argued that the case exemplifies an incremental development tactic, whereby minor auxiliary permits are subsequently converted into major residential footprints within sensitive green spaces.
The NGO urged citizens to lodge their representations directly with the Planning Authority ahead of the public consultation deadline to prevent further countryside development.
The Spin Room
Low media divide. Both outlets reported the NGO's objections and highlighted the applicant's familial and professional ties to the Gozo minister.
