Chinese Embassy Funds €45,000 Multisensory Space at Mater Dei Hospital
In brief
- The Chinese Embassy in Malta has contributed €45,000 to establish a dedicated multisensory space at Mater Dei Hospital.
- The facility is tailored to assist children with autism, sensory processing conditions, and additional support needs.
- The specialised room will form an integral part of ongoing expansion works within the emergency department.
The Chinese Embassy in Malta has provided a €45,000 donation to fund the creation of a dedicated multisensory room inside the emergency department at Mater Dei Hospital.
The new facility is intended to assist young patients with diverse needs, particularly children diagnosed with autism or sensory processing difficulties, as well as those requiring additional support during emergency care.
Emergency departments can be particularly challenging for neurodivergent children due to high noise levels, intense lighting, and constant clinical activity. The planned space is designed to offer a calming and secure setting to reduce anxiety during medical visits.
The project will be integrated into wider redevelopment and expansion efforts currently underway across Mater Dei Hospital's emergency department.
Funds provided by the Chinese diplomatic mission will directly finance specialised sensory equipment, appropriate lighting, and adapted furniture required for the room.
Hospital officials anticipate that the dedicated sensory space will significantly improve patient comfort and provide healthcare workers with a more suitable environment to deliver urgent care to young patients.
