In brief
- Maltese households accumulated more than €2.5 billion in total savings across 2025.
- The national household savings rate increased from 18.2% in 2024 to 19.2% in 2025.
- Gross value added at basic prices registered a 6% increase in nominal terms over the same period.
Maltese households accumulated more than €2.5 billion in savings during 2025, driven by continuous growth in both disposable income and overall household spending.
Revised national accounts published by the National Statistics Office (NSO) on Friday, 23 October, revealed that the domestic household savings rate climbed from 18.2% in 2024 to 19.2% in 2025.
The figures demonstrate that families across the Maltese islands retained a larger portion of their available earnings, even as general consumer expenditure expanded over the course of the year.
In addition to the rise in household savings, the statistical estimates confirmed that Malta's gross value added at basic prices expanded by 6% in nominal terms throughout 2025.
Value added measures the overall monetary value of goods and services generated across the economy after deducting the cost of inputs and intermediate consumption, serving as an indicator of productive activity.
The updated figures outline continuing resilience in household finances heading into the final months of the year, alongside broader expansion in national economic output.
