Jurors in the trial of former soldier Lorin Scicluna have heard evidence regarding his police interrogations following the fatal shooting of Lassana Cisse in April 2019.

Testifying officers told the Criminal Court that Scicluna, now 29 years old, initially attempted to deflect responsibility when questioned by investigators. He told police that he had lent his car to another individual on the night the drive-by shooting took place.

Under continued questioning, investigators challenged his account directly, accusing him of lying and attempting to cover up his involvement in the crime.

Police testimony revealed that Scicluna subsequently altered his story, ultimately placing himself inside the vehicle at the scene of the murder in Hal Far.

Forty-two-year-old Ivorian national Lassana Cisse was shot dead on 6 April 2019 as he walked along a country lane after visiting friends. Two other men were injured in the same incident, which prosecutors describe as a racially motivated attack.

Scicluna stands accused of murder, attempted murder, and related offences alongside a fellow former soldier. The trial by jury continues before the Criminal Court.
