In brief
- Activists from Moviment Graffitti and Friends of the Earth disrupted a national planning conference on Thursday morning.

Environmental activists disrupted a government planning conference on Thursday morning, staging a direct action that targeted Planning Authority chief executive Johann Buttigieg and halted proceedings.
Members of Moviment Graffitti and Friends of the Earth Malta entered the event, titled "Iċ-Ċittadin, l-Ambjent u l-Iżvilupp" (The Citizen, the Environment and Development), waving placards and chanting slogans.
The demonstration unfolded just as Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Employment Jonathan Attard was delivering his address. The disruption forced the minister to abandon his speech on stage as activists took over the platform.
Protesters directed their anger towards Buttigieg, who was also scheduled to address the gathering. The activist groups argued that his continued position at the helm of the Planning Authority is untenable in light of ongoing corruption allegations.
The demonstrators insisted that meaningful reform in national planning cannot occur while leadership figures linked to controversies remain in office. They called for Buttigieg's immediate resignation to restore public trust in planning decisions.
Following the confrontation, the event was thrown into disarray. Neither the ministry nor the Planning Authority immediately issued a formal statement regarding the future scheduling of the conference or the demands made by the activists.
